Chlamydial patent searching on Multi-Find Professional.

Multi-Find Professional is able to carry out chlamydial related patent searches at the US Patents and Trade Marks Office. In order to do this you must be registered and logged in on chlamydiae.com.

Example. Searching for chlamydial diagnostics patents, all years.  Using Multi-Find on the home page post log in, the search is set up as shown in Fig 1:

Fig 1. Setting up the search. After selecting US patents in the search engine drop box, diagnostic and all years have been selected in the relevant drop boxes. Nothing should be entered in the left hand Multi-Find box since the search is already restricted to chlamydial patent searches only. Clicking on "Go" carries out the search, which may take a little time.

Fig 2 shows the code which, in the patent office advanced search, you would have had to have typed in to do the same search.

The search is performed on all the current chlamydial taxa names, though this is currently unnecessary. Although the code says the search has been done on all databases from 1790 onwards, it hasn't 5 - V.Good.  In reality the search is from 1975 since the earliest databases can only be searched on patent number and year. The chlamydiae.com code searches for the terms specified in the claims field of the database as this seems to be the best compromise between coverage and quality. However the patent office retrieval screen gives you the option to modify the search if you wish; the "quick" search is somewhat easier to use but less flexible.

A portion of the output from this search is shown in Fig 3.

Please note that Chlamydiae.com provides this facility as a service to the chlamydial research community, but users must satisfy themselves that it meets the criteria they require. The US Patent Office search facility is a service provided for the public benefit by the US Government. It includes information on non US patents.
